About the Opportunity

Junee Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Civil Engineer to join their team in Junee, NSW.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services and working within a small team, you'll be primarily responsible for managing and maintaining existing infrastructure assets, as well as identifying, planning, designing and project-managing new infrastructure projects within appropriate standards, tight budgets and timeframes.

Some of your key duties will include:

  • Managing major projects and assisting the Director of Engineering Services with the management of the Council’s critical projects;
  • Designing a variety of civil works, including roads, stormwater, sewerage, footpaths and cycle ways, flood mitigation, parks and recreation, subdivisions and minor structures;
  • Assisting with the ongoing management of the Council’s Assets and development of forward works programs, preparation of budgets and reporting on projects;
  • Assisting with, and undertaking, investigations into engineering issues across all service areas, including State Roads for which the Council is responsible;
  • Assisting with the development of project specific plans for all infrastructure projects; and
  • Undertaking procurement of materials and services in accordance with the Council’s procurement policy and NSW legislation.

This is a multi-faceted role that will see you hands on throughout the entire lifecycle of projects; if you're a well-rounded engineer looking to be involved from inception to delivery, this is the role for you!

About You 

The successful candidate will fit one of the following criteria:

  • Be a recent Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) graduate, with some post-graduate experience, ideally in Local Government; or
  • Possess significant demonstrated Civil Engineering experience within regional or rural Local Government 

Due to the nature of the role, it's essential you possess design / project management experience in road infrastructure development within Australia.

You will also be competent in the use of computer programs including the Microsoft Office Suite, data interrogation and CAD (ideally AutoCAD Civil 3D), coupled with a strong awareness of NSW legislation / the regulatory environment in which NSW Local Government operates within. Although not essential, any experience with Spatial Mapping Systems will come in handy.

In addition to the above, Junee Shire Council is seeking a pragmatic and tenacious Engineer who's ready to roll up their sleeves and jump into any task at hand. Working within a fast-paced and busy environment, it's crucial you are able to work autonomously using initiative and forward thinking, rather than waiting for instruction.

A team player with excellent communication skills, you'll be able to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, from senior staff, team members and contractors to clients and the community; you'll be skilled in conveying the same message in various ways, dependent upon your audience.

Possession of a Driver's License, White Card, Red Card, Senior First Aid Certificate, and Local Government Powers and Practice Certificate will be highly regarded, however can be obtained subsequent to employment.
