About La Rocca Creative Cakes 

La Rocca Creative Cakes, one of North America’s leading dessert manufacturers, has an exciting opportunity for a Product Developer to join their team in Richmond Hill ON.   

The ideal candidate for this role will be a trained pastry chef with large scale manufacturing experience. Our new Developer will need to be driven, ambitious, methodical, process oriented and able to work independently and in a team environment.

What you get to do!

  • Create & Innovate! – Keep up-to-date on the newest trends, flavours, concepts, processes and continuously explore avenues to incorporate these ideas into new and exciting products
  • Develop products for midsize and large customer accounts with a strong focus on operational constraints, costing parameters, and company initiatives
  • Responsible for developing accurate work instructions, establishing acceptable and unacceptable parameters, ensuring cost and ultimately the integrity of product from conception to commercialization
  • Responsible for developing within company guardrails and understanding regulatory requirements and customer needs
  • Supports and leads production trials and first production runs with cross-functional teams (Quality Assurance, Scheduling, Procurement)
  • Participates in cost optimization initiatives with cross-functional teams (Operations, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Finance)
  • Supports operations team with troubleshooting technical challenges related to product formulations
  • Participates in the development of best practices and departmental procedures 

What we need!

  • 5+ years experience in product development in a food manufacturing environment (bakery industry preferred)
  • Culinary institute graduate, Pastry Chef, Red Seal or foreign equivalency required
  • Ability to skillfully prepare desserts/cakes/cheesecake/squares and beyond  
  • Experience in commercializing new products in a large manufacturer setting an asset
  • Strong knowledge of formulation design and food costing
  • Versed in GMP, food safety, HACCP and other regulatory requirements preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management skills/experience required
  • Food service and retail market knowledge an asset
  • Experience with recipe management software an asset
