About the Pilot Project

Funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, the Keeping Safe Together Project is an innovative new project seeking to provide intensive therapeutic support for women, children and their families (including men who use violence) experiencing family violence. 

This program will be delivered as a pilot program in both Melton and Wyndham and will be implemented through collaboration with a range of service providers across Melbourne's Western region.

About the Opportunity

WHW now has a rewarding clinical leadership opportunity for a Family Therapist (Social Worker/Psychologist) to join their team based in Werribee on a full-time fixed term 12-month contract basis. There is the opportunity for extension subject to funding.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing trauma-informed therapeutic case management, within the Keeping Safe Together project. This will include working with whole of family using a team based approach to assessment, interventions and ongoing review of therapeutic / case management plans.

More specifically, some of your day-to-day duties may include (but will not be limited to):

  • Actively engaging with families experiencing family violence with a view to build relationships and rapport with each member of the family including victims/survivors and people who use violence;
  • Assessing the needs for each member of the family and developing goals and a therapeutic case plan for the whole family with a focus on the safety and well-being of children and survivors;
  • Supporting and providing clinical direction and advice to Keeping Safe Together practitioners working jointly with individual family members;
  • Providing feedback and input into the development of a new evidence-informed, whole-of-family therapeutic case management model and program for families experiencing violence;
  • Contributing to the development of project tools and resources such as clinical templates and other program material as required to ensure program success; and
  • Participating in training and regular clinical supervision.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will need to have demonstrated experience in a previous position plus a tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, or related field. You will also need to be eligible for AASW membership or other related professional body.

It is essential in this role that you have a strong understanding of family violence and direct service experience in the area of child and family counselling and/or case management. 

One of the main challenges in this role is keeping the male family member engaged during family assessments. As such, you will need to display excellent interpersonal and communication skills to ensure you can keep all parties interested and engaged.

The role of Intensive Family Coordinator is a clinical leadership position and will require you to support other practitioners who have been assigned cases. This may require facilitating team discussions to offer new and innovative ideas of how to assist families live safe lives and recover from their experience of family violence.
