About the Benevolent Society

The Benevolent Society story started over 200 years ago - it’s about helping people to change their lives.

Imagine, an Australia without free legal aid, where child labour is still widespread, where there is no old age pension and no specialist maternity care. You’ve just imagined an Australia without The Benevolent Society.

As Australia's first charity, the Benevolent Society has been giving people with disabilities, children, families, older Australians, and carers a helping hand since 1813. Their vision is a just society where all Australians can live their best life.

About the Opportunity

In order to support ongoing growth, the Benevolent Society now has multiple opportunities for Social Workers to join their team on a full-time basis acting as Child and Family Practitioners. These positions are available for an immediate start and service the south-western suburbs of Sydney.

Reporting to the Child & Family Team Leader, the purpose of these positions is to use strength-based frameworks to work intensively with at risk children, young people, individuals and/or families by undertaking comprehensive assessments to develop, implement, monitor and review client plans. Your aim will be to improve parenting capacity and family resilience and functioning, increasing the safety of children and reducing the risk of out of home care.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Early Childhood, Psychology or similar and have at least 2 years case management experience working with at risk children, young people and/or families in a child protection focused role.

You will need to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the child protection system and have the ability to undertake comprehensive assessments, plan interventions and successfully deliver those plans. With strong case management and risk management skills, you will have an excellent understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development.

Importantly, high-quality record keeping, including the taking of accurate case notes, will be critical to your success in this position.

Please note: Any applicants with bi-lingual language abilities and/or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, CALD and/or LGBTI clients would be highly regarded. Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Working with Children clearance prior to commencement.
