About the Opportunity

Methanex has four openings for Power Engineering Summer Students who are interested in expanding their skill set with our team in Medicine Hat, AB, during the summer of 2018 (May- August). 

The Power Engineering Summer Student will gain steam time toward his or her Third Class Power Engineering studies and will have the opportunity to experience both utilities and process work. These positions will be based on a three-month or four-month work term during the summer of 2018, dependent on the program schedule of the post-secondary power engineering program being attended. You will be working on a 12-hour per shift, rotational shift schedule and acquire necessary time as per ABSA Power Engineering regulations Section 18 (7).     

The Power Engineering Summer Student will work under the direction of a qualified shift operator and have the opportunity to take part in the operator training program.  Duties will include unit rounds, monitoring equipment, helping prepare equipment for maintenance, as well as boiler water sampling and testing.

To qualify for these positions, you will need:

  • Current enrollment in a two-year Power Engineering Technology diploma program; a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4 point scale is preferred;
  • A Valid Alberta Driver’s License;
  • To successfully complete pre-employment screening that includes a background check and medical assessment, including drug and alcohol testing, due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.

In addition to these qualifications, you must possess a strong mechanical aptitude and have strong computer skills. 

Ideal candidates will present a self-motivated, positive and enthusiastic attitude, paired with excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills. It is important that you demonstrate learning agility where you are able to consistently and readily retain new information and demonstrate acquired skills.
