About the Role

Wickham's have an exciting opportunity for a Depot Manager (2IC) to join their Derrimut, VIC team on a full-time basis.

In this role, your main responsibility will be to assist the Depot Manager with overseeing and organising all functions within the Melbourne Depot including logistical operations. 

In addition, you will also be responsible for managing staff and facilities. As delegation to employees is a large part of this role, you will need to be a confident and approachable leader.

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Prioritising work schedules to ensure deadlines are successfully achieved;
  • Checking and staging freight on each pallet for maximum trailer usage;
  • Managing and supervising the loading of trailers to ensure accuracy and safety;
  • Identifying and addressing any conflict amongst employees;
  • Holding monthly tool-box meetings with staff to relay management messages and safe work awareness;
  • Reporting customer communications with the Warwick Head Office;
  • Preventing any potential breaches of the road transport mass, dimensions, loading, and driver hour laws; 
  • Promoting best WH&S practices through leadership and example.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong operational skills and a thorough understanding of the transport industry. It is also key that you're able to work in partnership with the Depot Manager.

As good leadership is an essential part of this role, you will need to have the ability to direct and liaise with employees in an approachable manner.

The Melbourne depot is currently experiencing high volumes of work and is equipped with a capable team. Being able to provide guidance to the team without micromanaging will be pivotal to your success in the role. As will sound computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products.

Previous experience with Translogix and/or Pronto will come in handy, however, training with these programs will be provided.

There is scope to move up within the organisation, provided you can demonstrate a high level of pride in your work (by holding yourself to a high standard) and leading the team by example.

Candidates who do hold relevant tertiary qualifications will be considered, but do need to have hands-on transport, operations, and/or logistics experience.

A forklift certificate, HR/MC license will be held in high regard, however, Wickham's are willing to pay for employees to obtain a forklift licence providing they have relevant industry experience.
