About the Opportunity

Murrumbidgee Council now has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Advisor to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Darlington Point, NSW.

Reporting to the Corporate and Community Services Manager, the Human Resources Advisor is responsible for providing high-quality human resources and workplace health and safety guidance and support to Council management and employees. You will undertake the full range of generalist human resource and work health and safety services including employee relations; employee wellbeing; HR systems and performance management so that management and staff are supported in enabling the organisation to meet its current and future goals.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing advice on a range of human resources activities including terms and conditions of employment, recruitment and selection, induction, resignation/retirement, salary administration, staff benefits, employee assistance, disciplinary matters and grievances;
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of HR/WHS systems in accordance with Council policy, corporate practice and legislation;
  • When requested, participating in the management of grievances and disciplinary matters, as required ensuring they are managed in accordance with procedural fairness and due process;
  • Providing guidance and support to managers, staff, contractors and volunteers in understanding and carrying out their responsibilities in relation to WHS; and
  • Maintaining currency of organisation knowledge regarding human resources, work health safety and employment related legislation, codes of practice as adopted by state legislation, Council policy, corporate practices and procedures.

About You

To be considered for this position you will have a minimum of a Diploma level qualification in human resources, industrial relations or related field, and demonstrated experience in a generalist HR position, including a solid understanding of employment relations.

You will be well versed in WHS legislation, procedures and processes and have the proven ability engage and influence WHS policy within Council employees, whilst still building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders. Any experience in managing workers compensation and return to work matters will be highly regarded.

This is a highly autonomous role requiring someone who is self-driven and able to manage their own workload and priorities. You will also be a confident communicator who is comfortable facilitating meetings and presenting to employee groups on HR and WHS matters.

A current driver's licence and the ability and willingness to travel is a requirement of this position.
