About the Opportunity 

N’Mninoeyaa Community Support Services is seeking a Registered Physiotherapist to join its dynamic, self-motivated group of healthcare professionals. This is a unique work experience for a physiotherapist who is interested in becoming a key member of a team that addresses the healthcare issues of First Nation and aboriginal populations.

Working collaboratively with a certified Rehabilitation Assistant, you will provide assessment, consultation, education and direct treatment within the four partner First Nation community clinics in and around the city of Sault Ste. Marie

N’Mninoeyaa Community Support Services is funded by the North East LHIN. Our Physiotherapy Services provides the unique opportunity to address a number of the LHIN Integrated Health Services Plan Priorities and this role is a great opportunity to advance the IHSP priorities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Exploring the development of a community-based hip and knee replacement program
  • Providing access to Physiotherapy for Seniors and Patients
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the Stay on Your Feet Strategy and provide clinical supervision for the Falls Prevention and Exercise Program
  • Supporting the assisted living of high-risk seniors to remain in their own homes as part of the multi-disciplinary team of professional services
  • Supporting the Rehabilitative Care Alliance by increasing the community capacity to provide access to rehabilitative care when and where needed
  • Participating as an active member of the chronic pain management team to address addictions to prescription drugs by providing alternative approaches to pain management
  • Addressing the unique needs of our Aboriginal/First Nation/Metis seniors who access the physiotherapy services within their community
  • Engaging the Physiotherapy universities to provide a unique student placement opportunity (within First Nation community clinics) to support the shift to community based care  as part of the (Health Human Resources Initiative)

To qualify, you must have a Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy and be registered with the College of Physiotherapy of Ontario. Experience or interest in working in a community clinic and home care setting is essential.

A demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the Aboriginal cultural values and Traditions will be essential to your success, as is knowledge and the ability to work with people with diverse practices, cultures, and beliefs.

Above all, you must be proficient using computers and technology, and you must have the capacity to participate in care planning to meet clients’ physical, psychosocial, cultural and emotional needs.

You will also possess:

  • The ability to use ADP authorizer (or willingness to learn) 
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • A clear criminal reference check (required)
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Community experience working with the elderly (asset only)
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to students and rehabilitation assistants (asset only)
