About the Opportunity

Methanex has an opening for Electrical Engineering Summer Student who is interested in expanding their skill set with our team in Medicine Hat, AB, during the summer of 2018 (approximately May 7, 2018 through August 31, 2018). 

Working under the guidance of the Instrument/Electrical Project Team, you will support the Engineering and Projects group in addressing outstanding projects related to reviewing instrument and electrical drawings, completing device specification sheets, updating appropriate databases and completing project closeouts.

You will also support day to day projects as assigned, support the Instrument/Electrical Project Designer, and also complete one other project during the term.

This is open to students who are currently enrolled in post-secondary studies and will be returning to studies upon the completion of the summer term.  

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reading, understanding, and interpreting instrument and electrical drawings
  • Understanding, field checking, and completing as build red line drawings
  • Understanding and building specification sheets for end devices
  • Using Conval to build orifice specification sheets
  • Updating instrument and drawing databases
  • Building project closeout packages in accordance with site management of change processes
  • Providing support to engineering on the day to day small projects
  • Completing one assigned project

To qualify for these positions, you will need:

  • Successful completion of third-year studies in an undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree program, or successful completion of first or second year studies in an Electrical Engineering Technology or Instrumentation Engineering Technology diploma program
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

The ideal candidate will be extremely organized and detail oriented with strong time management and prioritization skills. You must also be customer focused and dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external customers.

Above all, you must be independently motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision with a flexibility and willingness to work in a team environment.

Please note that this position is based on a Monday to Friday 9/80 work schedule. Also, this is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to a pre-placement medical assessment including alcohol/drug testing.
