A rewarding career opportunity awaits

Tobwabba now has a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Psychologist to join their team based in Forster, NSW. This position is being offered on a permanent part-time basis (3 days per week) with the potential option to work 2 days if that is the preference of the successful candidate.

Reporting to the clinically-trained Corporate Services Manager and supported by the supervising Psychologist on-site, you will provide holistic, primary health care focused, psychological services for Tobwabba clients with a specific focus on:

  • Provision of trauma based psychological interventions, including individual and group therapeutic services;
  • Provision of therapeutic intervention for clients with alcohol and/or other drug-use disorders;
  • Provision of flexible, client-centric psychological interventions based on General Practitioner identified needs.

Working collaboratively with Aboriginal Health Workers and other staff, you will assist in creating awareness and acceptance of mental health therapeutic intervention in the AMS setting.

This opportunity would be well-suited to a mid-career Psychologist who has an interest in establishing a private practice whilst still maintaining a solid, risk-free income, 2 or 3 days per week.

What you need to succeed

To be considered for this position you will hold unrestricted registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist and full membership (or eligibility to join), the Australian Psychological Society. You will also be required to hold and/or be eligible for a Medicare provider number.

You will be a confident Psychologist with demonstrated experience delivering psychological/mental health intervention from a trauma based therapeutic model to children, adolescents and families; drug and alcohol/mental health (dual diagnosis) and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health.

Working predominantly with Aboriginal individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds, it is essential that you are culturally sensitive and have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, with the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal clients. Previous experience delivering primary health care services within an Aboriginal community will be highly regarded.

Critically, Tobwabba is seeking candidates who are flexible in their approach to service delivery. You will assess each clients needs on an individual basis and use your professional judgement to deliver a model of care that will deliver the best outcomes for that client. As such, this position would be better suited to an experienced Psychologist who has worked within various service-delivery models and is confident transitioning between them as needed.
