Diabetes Australia was established in 1984 and is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes and those at risk. Diabetes Australia works in partnership with diabetes health professionals and researchers and is committed to reducing the impact of diabetes on the Australian community.

The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) is an initiative of the Australian Government administered with the assistance of Diabetes Austalia. The NDSS aims to enhance the capacity of people with diabetes to understand and self-manage their condition. Diabetes Australia also seeks to support people with diabetes by providing timely, reliable and affordable access to NDSS services.

About the Opportunity

Diabetes Australia now has an exciting opportunity for a Program Team Leader to join their team in Canberra. This role is being offered on a full-time, contract basis to 30 June 2020.

Reporting to the National Program Manager, NDSS, The Program Team Leader contributes to the planning and development of national NDSS programs and other strategic initiatives, to deliver project and program results which meet scope and are on time and within budget. You will support the Program Manager's leadership and management of the delivery of NDSS services, with the end goal of helping Australians diagnosed with diabetes and registered with the NDSS to effectively self-manage. 

Your key accountabilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Liaising with the internal and external stakeholders in the preparation of NDSS services, plans, forecasts and budgets;
  • Maintaining and developing policies, processes and procedures for operational, financial and stakeholder relations activities, especially with the Department of Health and NDSS Agents;
  • Monitoring contracts, meeting deliverables for NDSS services and actively participating in the NDSS reporting cycle; and
  • Overseeing resource requirements including participating in monitoring of staff performance and development.

To be considered for this position you will have previous experience in a program and/or project management capacity, with the demonstrated ability to achieve deliverables and outcomes on time, within budget and within scope. 

Candidates with a background in the health sector and/or in health education, as well as those with experience in the collation of quarterly and annual reporting documentation, will be highly regarded. 

While you will have no direct reports, you will play a leadership role within the Program Team, supervising a team of 5 and stepping into the National Program Manager role if required for sickness or leave absences. As such, previous leadership experience and an interest in a leadership path is a must for this role, including the ability to set clear guidelines and expectations to staff around project deliverables and timeframes.  

This role would be well suited to an individual with strong negotiation skills who is calm under pressure, flexible and adaptable in an environment in which demands can change very quickly.
