About the Opportunity
With big growth plans and a stable local economy, Daikin PNG now has an exciting opportunity for a Division Manager to lead their team based in Port Moresby, PNG. This is a residential role (not fly-in/out), being offered on a full-time basis.
As a pivotal leadership role within Daikin PNG, the Manager has overall responsibility for the Daikin Store, Service Department and projects in both Port Moresby and Lae. You will organise and control all service activities, support the capital program and supervise administration for the Branch.
More specifically, your duties will include:
- Taking responsibility for all engineering aspects of Daikin PNG, including engineering support to Daikin PNG Lae;
- Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts in conjunction with senior managers and the Financial Controller;
- Overseeing the tendering process including review, costing and approval;
- Working with the Senior Project Engineer in the design of HVAC systems as required;
- Development and implementation of engineering quality systems and procedures in conjunction with other managers; and
- Providing engineering training in areas identified as requiring improvement within the business.
To be successful in this role you will hold Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline, with extensive experience and knowledge of HVACR systems.
Supported by a strong technical team who will run most day-to-day operations, you will still be expected to provide technical leadership to the business and as such, your expertise needs to cover a broad range of areas including, but not necessarily confined to chilled water systems, VRV systems, commissioning, ventilation, commercial refrigeration, packaged air conditioners, controls and ice makers. Your knowledge of Australian and New Zealand standards and practices will be an essential component together with your familiarity with leading brands such as Daikin, Temperzone, Carrier, Trane, York and Australia and New Zealand supply chain.
Proven experience leading and developing a large team will also be critical to your success in this role. With a team of approximately 20 direct reports and overseeing 200+ employees, including expatriates and PNG national service staff, it is essential that you have a hands-on management style and the ability to communicate effectively in a cross-cultural workforce, with a sensitivity to cultural differences. You will be an honest, adaptable and personal individual with the ability to 'walk the talk' and lead by example to get the job done.
Most importantly, Daikin PNG is looking for someone who has a good understanding of what life is like in PNG and genuine reasons for wanting to move to the region. As someone with a good commercial acumen who is hard working and motivated by a challenge, you will utilise the latest industry technologies and management methodologies in order to strengthen the existing customer base and develop new business fronts.
You'll be based in Port Moresby, with occasional travel, so the successful applicant must be flexible to travel within PNG and hold a current driver's licence.
