About Lung Foundation Australia

Lung Foundation Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation based in Brisbane. Their vision is to improve lung health and reduce the impact of lung disease by:

  • Educating the community in lung health and early detection of lung disease;
  • Reducing the burden of lung disease in the community through patient and carer support;
  • Influencing public policy, through advocacy across all levels of government; and
  • Raising funds for medical and scientific research.

The Lung Foundation Australia National Office employs about 21 professional/administrative staff, supported by a team of dedicated volunteers. 

About the Opportunity

Lung Foundation Australia is now seeking a Senior Manager - Marketing & Communications to join their team in Milton, Brisbane. This is a maternity leave contract being offered on a full-time, contract basis with commencement expected in September 2018, concluding July 2019.

Reporting to the CEO, this position centralises and coordinates internal and external marketing and communications, bringing public relations perspectives and strategies into decision-making and planning. Due to the contract nature of this position, the Lung Foundation is looking for a caretaker to manage and coordinate existing marketing and communications plans and programs, rather than someone to develop and implement new strategies. 

There are a number of large exciting projects underway that you will be involved in, including a high profile national campaign for Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November, as well as a number of smaller campaigns supporting World COPD Day and Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month (also in November). In addition, you will be brought on board in the very final stages before launch of the organisation’s new website in late September, which you will then oversee the ongoing management and maintenance of.

More specifically, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Managing the branding, media relations and marketing of Lung Foundation Australia in order to increase the organisation's profile;
  • Implementing pre-defined marketing and communications strategies, campaigns and operational plans;
  • Overseeing the implementation of digital and content plans to drive the effective delivery of social media, EDMs, e-newsletters and websites;
  • Delivering key campaigns including the 2018 Lung Cancer Awareness Month, 2018 World COPD Day, 2019 Pneumonia Awareness Week and 2019 Lung Health Awareness Month campaigns, liaising with partners and agencies as required; and
  • Supervising, coaching and mentoring the Marketing and Communications team.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications (ie Marketing Communications, PR, Journalism, Media or similar) and demonstrated experience at a leadership level within a marketing and communications team. 

You will have proven experience delivering and managing multiple marketing campaigns and projects at once, as well as a strong understanding of news value and experience in managing media and public relations. You will be well versed in digital marketing including the management of websites, social media and EDMs, with very strong writing skills for a variety of mediums.

As this is a fast-paced and varied role, Lung Foundation is after extremely well-organised and professional candidates who are able to work autonomously and effectively manage competing deadlines. You'll be stepping into a supportive team environment and as such, you'll need to work collaboratively with others and be willing to jump into any task at hand!
