About the role

Area9 now has an exciting full-time opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer to join their Darwin team.

In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for the installation, relocation, maintenance, and expansion/upgrade of IT network infrastructure systems for clients. You will also provide remedial maintenance support of LAN and WAN networks.

In addition, you will provide ongoing support for clients, both remotely and at client premises, and perform various service delivery tasks including Incident/Problem and Change Management.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to): 

  • Designing network solutions;
  • Presenting network solutions to customers;
  • Scoping network projects and participating in their implementation, individually or as part of a team;
  • Configuring, managing and troubleshooting network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, load balancers, WAN accelerators, VPN concentrators, etc from a range of vendors that include Cisco, Meraki, HP, Aruba, Citrix, F5, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, D-Link, Microsoft and VMware.
  • Reviewing networks for upgrades and improvements;
  • Liaising with Area9 customers and Area9 management;
  • Proactively preventing faults/issues in network environments;
  • Being responsive to customer faults/issues in network environments; and
  • Acting as a liaison between vendors, Area9 sales and service delivery personnel and customers.

To be successful in this role, it is key that candidates have significant experience in a similar role and an industry qualification in one or more of Cisco's Certifications including CCNA and CCNP.

While not essential, candidates with Cisco specialisations and certifications in areas such as Security, Wireless, VOIP will be favourably considered. As will candidates who hold an ITIL Foundation Certification or similar industry and System Administration experience and/or qualifications such as Microsoft, VMware, Citrix.

In addition, candidates will need to have experience in, and an understanding of, the following:

  • IT network support environments including implementation/remediation projects;
  • Designing network solutions;
  • Client management;
  • Designing, implementing, and troubleshooting technology solutions;
  • Supporting and troubleshooting LAN and WAN Networks;
  • Routing protocols including RIP, OSPF, VRRP, and BGP;
  • SNMP, DNS, NAT, DHCP;
  • Firewalls;
  • Broad networking skills; 
  • Switchers and routers;
  • Redundant networking; and
  • Diagnostic-level ability with VRRP and BGP routing protocols, load-balancing, and authenticated proxy.

Most importantly, you will be an excellent communicator who is not afraid to think outside of the box! You will be passionate about your role and keeping your skills current, enjoy mentoring younger network engineers, love liaising with a variety of clients, and have exceptional communication and written skills.

This role is customer facing and requires you to communicate verbally and in writing with customers, vendors and colleagues and you must be proficient in verbal and written communication in the English language. Where English is your second language we are seeking ILETS scores of no lower than 7.5. We will ask for proof of your ILETS score prior to an interview.
