About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Automation Technician to join our team in Prince Rupert, BC. 

Reporting to the IT Manager, you will be responsible for implementation, support, maintenance, and inventory of infrastructure and hardware in the department portfolio, while delivering highest quality services to multiple terminal facilities in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Identifying and evaluating opportunities to gain efficiencies through automation
  • Lobbying for approval where appropriate and implementing solutions as approved
  • Performing functions associated with the design, development, installation, maintenance, and performance assessment of approved solutions
  • Performing or assisting team members in monitoring and troubleshooting service performance problems
  • Collaborating with others to resolve issues, including external partners
  • Providing instruction, assistance, and guidance to other technicians as required
  • Performing required incidental and preventative maintenance on network attached equipment and updating necessary logs and completes reports
  • Coordinating clearing of trouble tickets with other groups and organizations
  • Ensuring clear, concise, and accurate documentation for infrastructure systems is maintained
  • Maintaining limited spare hardware inventory

In order to qualify for this role, you will have completed a 2-year post-secondary technical diploma or certificate and a minimum of 2 years of experience technical role

You will also possess:

  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure including vehicle mounted data terminals, wireless networks, position detection, OCR, and monitoring/alerting systems
  • Practical knowledge of automated system and network monitoring tools
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to complete activities within time constraints
  • Strong team orientation and ability to contribute to the realization of team goals and customer satisfaction
  • An understanding of incident, change, and problem management processes
  • Must be willing to work day, evening or night hours, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as required

The following are assets, but not required:

  • Software development and/or database management experience 
  • Previous experience working in an industrial setting 

You will do well in this role if you are an effective communicator who can work as part of a small but growing team. You must be self-reliant, have strong problem-solving skills, and be able to work collaboratively. 

Due to the nature of this role, you will spend about 50% of your time on site. As such, you must be comfortable with heights, and you must be willing to work day, evening or night hours, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as required. You must also be able to pass security clearance.
