About the Organisation 

The Cairns Community Legal Centre is a non-profit, government-funded community organisation, providing accessible legal and social justice services to people in the community who are experiencing disadvantage.

The Centre extends their service to a number of different areas, including guardianship, domestic violence, peace and good behavior matters, consumer law, debt, motor vehicle property damage, employment, discrimination, family law, child protection, and criminal and traffic matters. 

This work is provided for a diverse range of clients including people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, those experiencing domestic or family violence, financial difficulties and homelessness. 

About the Opportunity 

The Cairns Community Legal Centre is now seeking a Paralegal to join their team (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday). This is a new role, and offers an exciting opportunity.

Working under the guidance of the Centre’s senior and other staff, your role will be to assist with, and support provision of the Centre’s work, including: 

  • Providing clerical and administrative support;
  • Sharing the administrative and other support functions relating to provision of the Centre’s Duty Lawyer and Thursday Night Service, including attending those services as required;
  • Providing information and referral services;
  • Undertaking client intake;
  • Assisting with client advice, minor legal task and casework services;
  • Assisting with preparation and development of community education, awareness raising, publicity, promotional and related resources and materials; and
  • Assisting with law reform and social policy work.

As a member of the Centre’s team, you’ll also share workloads with your colleagues, and be actively involved in promotional and other activities aimed at the ongoing development of the Centre and services which seek to meet its corporate goals.
