Reporting to the Executive Chef - Oval Hotel, you will be responsible for providing high quality a-la-cart, restaurant and bistro food items to all guests attending the Hill of Grace Restaurant, Bespoke Wine Bar & Kitchen and the Stadium Club for the duration of the 2020 AFL season. As an integral part of our Oval Hotel pre-opening team, you will be involved in the transformation of these restaurants and kitchen spaces. You will be detail orientated, know your local produce and have a genuine passion for high quality menu offerings. This will be your opportunity to grow with the team, and finesse your skill set ready for ongoing regular shifts with the official launch of Oval Hotel in September 2020.

To be successful, you must demonstrate a true culinary dedication with previous experience in fine dining and busy, high calibre restaurants.

 

The role

We are looking for well versed hotel and restaurant chefs to initially support our Event Day operations within our Stadium Club, newly renovated Hill of Grace Restaurant and the brand new Bespoke Wine Bar & Kitchen. These positions will commence from 19th March 2020, just in time for AFL season. Initially only 1 day per week (event days), these positions will have the opportunity to mature with increased regular ongoing shifts following the opening of Oval Hotel.

Ideal candidates must have the ability to work independently in high pressure corporate environments, have the desire to go above & beyond, be able to multi-task, have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and be a team player. It is essential that you are available to work the next 24 major event days which can be found in the 'whats on' section of our website: Whats On.

With new modern kitchens and fresh, quality produce to work with, you will be helping to deliver high end quality menus to both our restaurants and stadium club corporate clients.

 Specifically, you can expect the following:

  • Bulk food prep (be prepared to chop, cut, peel and wash!).
  • Work across multiple restaurants and F&B outlets within the Hotel.
  • Delivery of a La Carte, Banquets and other contemporary menus.
  • Fully supplied, cleaned and pressed uniforms.

These casual positions offer minimum shifts from 3 hours on major event and game days.

 

About you

We are seeking employees who have the following:

  • High end restaurant or hotel experience
  • Professional presentation (for open kitchens) and exceptional communication skills
  • Availability to work across the next 24 major event days (weekends)
  • Ability to work in large, busy and fast paced kitchen and restaurant environments (350+pax)
  • Completed apprenticeship and/or relevant trade qualification (commercial cookery etc)
  • Minimum 4 years industry experience in one or more of the following: Fine dining restaurants, medium to large A-La-Cart restaurants, Banquets, Hotels
  • RSA and Food Hygiene/Food Safety qualifications are mandatory for these roles

 

To be successful for a position at Oval Hotel, you must have completed an apprenticeship or, hold a self funded qualification with minimum 4 years industry experience. In addition, it is essential that you possess a Food Handling and Responsible Service Alcohol certificates at the time of your application (candidates must attach both certificates on application.)
