Autism Advisor - NT (Alice Springs)

Autism SA is a leading provider of services to individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Australia and is seeking to employ a part time (0.4 FTE) Autism Advisor in Alice Springs.

The Autism Advisor Program provides a central point for advice, information and referrals to service options for families and carers with a child under 6 diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This position will also incorporate some administrative duties, training delivery and intra and interstate travel.

This position is required to be flexible and accessible in order to provide assistance to people with a wide range of health, information and cultural needs, over a variety of geographical areas. Specifically, the role is responsible and accountable for:

  • Directly supporting families to navigate the service system both pre and post diagnosis
  • Supporting sector development
  • Delivery of Early Days Workshops to eligible families 

The hours are flexible and suitable times of work will be negotiated with the successful applicant.  

Special Requirements:

  • Working from home arrangements are desirable.
  • Current Northern Territory Drivers License
  • Current Ochre Card
  • Reasonable additional hours of work may be required
  • May be required to travel regional, remote and interstate

This is a maternity leave replacement contract for a period of 5 months – end date 9th August 2017 (All positions are subject to satisfactory probationary periods and funding agreements.)

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Disability Studies, Social Work, Psychology or related Discipline and/or significant experience in a relevant field

Significant experience in:

  • Working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Providing advice, counselling, information and referring families/carers of children with disabilities to service options
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Delivering workshops to professionals and families

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV – Training and Assessment
