JOB SUMMARY:

Enforces City bylaws and operates the City Pound

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responds to and investigates City bylaw complaints, including issuing violation tickets and recording calls for service
  • Conducts investigation, gathers evidence and prepares for prosecution of bylaw offences; may represent the City in court for bylaw violations
  • Serves legal notices to the public as required
  • Transports coin, bank deposits, mail
  • Deals with aggressive and dangerous dogs and dogs at large
  • Provides accurate information to other departments, the public and external agencies concerning bylaw enforcement matters
  • Feeds and cares for impounded animals
  • Operates animal traps and restraints
  • Delivers cash from parking ticket dispensers to City Hall
  • Liaises with SPCA, RCMP, Court Services and other regulatory agencies
  • Assists with research and preparation of bylaw enforcement reports, regulatory bylaws and related correspondence
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • May work on short-notice and outside regular hours to respond to emergencies
  • Maintain professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Level 1 and Level 2 Bylaw Enforcement & Investigative Skills Certificates
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Drivers License
  • W.H.M.I.S Certificate
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of experience with bylaw enforcement
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

 PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2017 pay rate of $28.01 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 HOURS OF WORK:

8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Sunday, up to 7 hours per day and 35 hours a week
