Becoming a Trainee with City of Newcastle (CN) will provide you with combined on-the-job learning with structured training.  You will learn an array of specialist practical skills and knowledge relevant to conservation and land management.

As a Bushland Services Trainee, your duties will focus on a range of horticultural services (including but not limited to) park maintenance, recreational facilities maintenance, landscape works and natural resource management in line with set service levels.

To be successful in this job you will have:

Essential

  • Completion of Year 10 School Certificate, ROSA ‘Record of School Achievement’ or Year 12 Higher School Certificate, with satisfactory results including as a minimum a pass in General Mathematics and English.
  • Able to satisfy basic manual handling and physical health requirements of the position and a willingness to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Literacy / numeracy skills commensurate with the position.
  • Reasonable communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work under supervision and as part of team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop sound knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety.
  • A commitment to the prescribed training requirements and personal development.
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence, manual highly desirable, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement;
  • Access to reliable transport for attendance at both work and external training providers.
  • A genuine interest and passion in undertaking a trade with a demonstrated interest in lands, parks and wildlife conservation.

Desirable

  • Completion of a pre-vocational course or work experience relevant to the position.
  • Experience in the safe operation of horticultural and turf maintenance machinery or equipment.
  • Experience as part of a functioning team.
  • Current NSW Class C Licence (manual) or Provisional Drivers Licence (manual).
  • Basic computer literacy, including experience / knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Remuneration: $32,459 – $45,442 + 9.5% Superannuation per annum for a 38-hour week.
