City of Newcastle (CN) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic leader to take on the role of Senior Urban Planner to join our Regulatory, Planning and Assessment team.  This position oversees and coordinate CN’s Local Infrastructure Contribution Plans.

To be successful in this role you will bring demonstrated experience in problem solving, research and analytical skills particularly in interpreting State government policy and operational processes and developing a range of materials for a variety of audiences.

You will ensure that planning processes achieve an appropriate level of involvement and commitment from relevant internal and external stakeholders, including the community.

To be successful in this job you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or a related qualification, and/or demonstrated capability through past employment experience, education and training.
  • Proven experience in the preparation, review and management of Section 7.11 and Section 7.12 Local Infrastructure Contributions Plans and planning agreements.
  • A high level of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise reports, deliver presentations and to conduct meetings.
  • Well-developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in interpreting State government policy and operational processes and developing a range of materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated by abilities in consultation, negotiation, conflict resolution and influencing skills at all levels, and the capacity to develop and manage effective relationships with all stakeholders and all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to deliver projects in accordance with financial, scope, quality and time constraints and demonstrated capacity to monitor and report on project performance.
  • An ability to attend meetings outside of regular business hours.
  • Current C Class drivers’ licence.

Desirable

  • Proven experience in the preparation and review of local environmental plans and development control plans, development policy procedures and guidelines.
  • Experience in local government and interpreting and applying the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 to various situations.
  • An awareness of the priority strategic issues impacting on the Newcastle community requiring a response from CN.

Remuneration: $106,032 - $111,963 + 9.5% Superannuation per annum for a 35 hour week.
