Please note, this role has been advertised as a Cook, however within City of Newcastle we title this role Food & Beverage Attendant – Cook.

We are now seeking an experienced Cook to support the team at Civic Digest - a contemporary cafe and bar located at the Civic Theatre on Hunter Street. In this casual employment opportunity, you’ll ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen by preparing, cooking, and serving quality menu items, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, assisting in stock control, and ensuring professional equipment remains in good working order.

As the successful candidate, you’ll enjoy working under pressure in a fast-paced environment and will be comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a team. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing exceptional customer service by engaging with patrons to promote the Civic Theatre and encourage repeat business, assisting with setting up and packing down the café area, and preparing and serving both coffee and alcoholic drinks to order.

The essentials you’ll need:

  • Demonstrated café or cook service experience in a fast-paced environment and an environment where you have regularly or occasionally worked autonomously
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work within a small team
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Up to date with food and beverages trends and best practices
  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification or willingness to obtain one
  • Prepared to work extraordinary hours in line with events and hospitality industry expectations

Other valuable skills you may have:

  • Barista experience
  • Bar experience
  • First aid certification
  • Experience in live performance or cultural industries
