The Garvan Institute is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutions with approximately 500 scientists, students and support staff working in research programs in Cancer, Diabetes & Obesity, Immunology & Inflammation, Osteoporosis, and Neuroscience. The Garvan’s Immunological Diseases Division represents one of the premier immunology departments in Australia.
We are now inviting applications for a dedicated and enthusiastic research assistant to work with Dr Tri Phan using two-photon microscopy to investigate the dynamics of immune and cancer cell interactions in live animals.
The position will involve the use of a number of in vivo model systems and a major component of the work will involve small animal handling and procedures. In addition, the project will also involve the use of a range of cellular and molecular biology techniques such as tissue culture, flow cytometry and cell sorting, fluorescent microscopy, PCR, gene cloning and expression.
Applicants are required to have a BSc Hons (First Class) or equivalent in an area of the Biological Sciences covering immunology, cancer and/or cell biology. Relevant training will be provided, however experience with microscopy and small animal handling would be an advantage.
