Salary Range of $175k to 223k Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities) plus 11% Superannuation + Smart Salary Packaging Benefit

The Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine (CSGEHM) involves a collaboration across Australia, led by The George Institute for Global Health, the Australian Human Rights Institute, UNSW, Deakin University and the Victorian Department of Health.

The Centre is being launched in March, 2024 with a vision to ensure that sex and gender are routinely considered in health and medical research, policy and practice with a view to improve health outcomes.

We currently have an opportunity for a dedicated and experienced senior academic leader to play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the CSGEHM.

 

The Opportunity:

In this newly created leadership role, based in Sydney at The George Institute, the Head, CSGEHM will be responsible for leading, developing and maintaining a national program of work focused on the integration of sex and gender in health and medical research, policy and practice.

Our successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team collaborating with the Australian Human Rights Institute, Deakin as well as partner organisations nationally and internationally.  The role will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Centre’s visions and goals as well as leading research outputs within the program. The role will suit an experienced academic at level D or E.

 

  Key Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Lead the establishment and growth of the new Centre prioritising the creation of a strong research program that will underpin the Centre’s translation, capacity building and advocacy activities
  • Identify and prioritise critical resources required to grow the Centre; build and manage relationships with key funders
  • Recruit, develop and retain staff that have the essential capabilities and experience to support the Centres vision
  • Develop capability and resources to engage key stakeholders to assist in achieving the Centre’s vision, including consumer and community organisations, healthcare providers, government and the business community
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders within TGI, the Australian Human Rights Institute and Deakin University as well as external partner organisations and individuals
  • Lead research proposals and output 

 

 Our Successful Candidate  

  • PhD in a relevant health related discipline
  • Experience at a senior level, Associate Professor or Professor level, ideally aligned to the Centre’s focus on sex and gender equity in health and medicine.
  • Experience in conducting high-quality independent research
  • Demonstrated success in achieving research funding from peer-reviewed grants or other sources
  • Experience in the preparation of journal publications, reports and other written materials
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills (including experience in post-graduate teaching)
  • Adaptable and able to work in a dynamic environment
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated budgeting and financial management capacity
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to see the big picture, yet still focus on detail
  • Availability and willingness to travel
