Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are looking for a qualified Light Machinery Technician to join the site maintenance team. Reporting to the Site Works Supervisor, the Technician is responsible for the effective maintenance of Karara's Light Vehicle (LV) fleet, plant machinery and ancillary equipment.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the LV fleet and ancillary equipment is maintained to a high standard meeting site safety, operational requirements and manufacturer’s specifications
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Parts Coordinator to ensure all high usage parts are stocked in the warehouse to support servicing and minor repair completion in a timely manner
  • Maintain the Light Machinery workshop to high standard meeting safety, environmental, storage and disposal requirement standards
  • Utilise the company Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage and record all maintenance activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve the reliability of equipment or cost savings
  • Monitor and communicate LV downtime events which impact site personnel, safety systems, environment or plant operations
  • Coordinate and prioritise repair activities to minimise interruptions to personnel and the processing plant, while ensuring Karara safety standards are met
  • Engage with operational teams to promote high reliability of processing equipment and support infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the team to develop improvement strategies providing reliability of equipment and cost savings

Key requirements:

  • LV Mechanic Trade Qualification or similar
  • Current WA drivers license
  • Skid Steer ticket
  • Loader ticket
  • Excavator ticket
  • Demonstrated experience working in similar mechanical role within mining or heavy industry
  • Proven understanding of mining safety standards, including permit systems and risk management tools
