About the role 

The Local Laws and Animal Management Officer role is within the Compliance Operations Unit and is part of the Amenity and Compliance branch. Teams within the branch include Animal Management, Local Laws, Parking and Road Safety, Business Support, School Crossings and Prosecutions.

Our officers respond to customer inquiries and conduct investigations into concerns raised by residents and visitors of or municipality. In this role you will work closely with supportive colleagues while investigating and enforcing allegations of breaches of the Local Law, Domestic Animal Act, and relevant Acts and Legislation.

Working both individually and as part of a larger team you will need to be self-motivated, organised, have high attention to detail and able to work with conflicting priorities. Working closely with the public you’ll need the ability to communicate clearly and calmly and provide excellent customer experience.

Experience in the application of law enforcement procedures, including interviewing techniques, evidence collection, note-taking, the preparation of legal documents and presentation in court is highly desirable.

The role will involve handling of animals including aggressive dogs and cats.

 

Skills and experience required to perform this role 

  • A current Australian driver’s license (required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Confidence in negotiation and conflict resolution
  • High level of personal integrity
  • An understanding of investigative practices and evidence gathering principles
  • Ability to manage stakeholders to influence decision-making
