The Opportunity

We’re looking for passionate mental health clinicians who possess a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people experiencing mental illness. You will work with the multidisciplinary team in the delivery of integrated primary mental health services.

The position will be responsible for the engagement, assessment and provision of clinical services under the Psychological Support Services Program (PSS). The focus of the PSS program is young people with moderate mental illness who are not clinically suited to mental health services funded through other arrangements such as the Better Access Initiative (Medicare).

This is a part-time opportunity, 24 hours per week, maximum term contract ending 30th June 2017. The centre operates Monday – Friday, job share arrangements can be considered and flexible working hours can be negotiated with the successful applicant. 

Based in Ashfield, you will report to the headspace Team Leader.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide evidence based short term focused psychological intervention/treatment for young people aged 12- 25 years
  • Liaise and work with relevant services including but not limited to; GPs, Psychiatrists, health services , NGO’s, schools and youth services
  • Ensure the efficient and consistent provision of person-centred services to young people, including adherence to relevant guidelines and procedures
  • In consultation with the Team Leader, plan the PSS clinical services
  • Actively participate in service development, team meetings, quality assurance activities and WH&S initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholder groups
  • Maintain patient records, computer generated statistical information within headspace Ashfield
  • Prepare internal and external reports to ensure compliance with the program and funding bodies

 

Skill and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with young people providing evidence based psychological intervention/ treatment.
  • Experience working with at-risk young people with a range of psychosocial and co-morbidity issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with young people and carers.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication, organisational skills with proven ability to prioritise work.
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with protocols in relation to staff safety, maintaining patient records, reporting and following clear lines in relation to clinical accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Technical literacy with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and systems for reporting
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications as a Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, registered with Medicare as a Mental Health Provider. A Social Worker must be a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and meet the standards for ‘Mental Health Social Workers 1999.’
  • Registered with AHPRA or relevant professional body
  • Willingness to obtain an Australian Federal Police Check, WWCC and first aid certificate that meet New Horizons employment criteria prior to commencing with us
