An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and competent candidate to come up and work for Cook Shire Council in the role of Co-ordinator to support the Planning and Environment team.

Reporting to the Manager Planning and Environment you will be able to make the role your own and support the team through quickly learning systems and being inquisitive and tenacious in your desire to come up to speed as quickly as possible.  Aside from co-ordinating the administration processes for development applications across the whole of Council you will also be an integral point of contact for developers, state agencies and other stakeholders involved in development applications and development compliance matters.

You will also confidently oversee compliance in record keeping and development timeframes to ensure all development files are kept in accordance with legislative requirements.

About You

Renowned for your overall intellect, passion for urban planning and building and for being a ‘team player’ you are self-motivated and flexible and a good communicator who easily engages with a range of stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will have a proven ability to be well organised and able to confidently prioritise the work requirements of the department. Underpinning this will be a high level of attention to detail, strong writing skills and a desire to learn and have a ‘career’ not just a ‘job’.

Whilst this is largely an administrative/co-ordinating role, you will need demonstrated supervisory skills to ensure work plans and timelines are being met by others. Your proficiency in Microsoft office programs including word, spreadsheets and databases will be of the highest level. Enjoying variety in a role and confidently communicating with people across council departments and the community will underpin a strong customer ethic.

Why this Role?

If you feel you can be passionate about the role you can play in co-ordinating and enabling the planning and environment department’s administrative processes to be carried out to the highest level then this is a great position and opportunity to join a progressive and supportive Council where you can truly make your mark.

Aspirations to leverage yourself further and (understandably this will be based on performance) and to have the opportunity to be across every aspect in a Council Planning and Environment department make this an opportunity not to be missed.

For those considering a ‘sea change’ this could be your chance to enjoy life away from the daily commute and to enjoy all the benefits of living in a truly unique coastal location where work/life balance is genuinely possible. The organisation is very ‘family-friendly’ and flexible hours are genuinely supported by management. With an RDO once a month you will easily be able to spend weekends in Cairns or exploring the Tablelands and other parts of the region.

If we have piqued your interest and you would love to live and work in this unique tropical region – then call to discuss what could be a genuine, career enhancing opportunity.

Cook Shire is an equal opportunity employer and encourages a diverse workplace. Indigenous community members and women are strongly encouraged to apply, and all applications are assessed on merit.
