About the Opportunity

An exciting and challenging opportunity exists for the right candidate to join the Secretariat as a Director.

The role, which is part of the Senior Management Team at the Secretariat and reports directly to the Secretary General and Deputy Secretaries General, will lead a diverse team delivering key results to drive deeper regional cooperation and integration.  The Director must have the capacity to provide high level strategic advice and set priorities for the team.  She/he must also manage the performance of the team and be accountable for delivery of key results to deliver a prioritise regionalism agenda.  This role also contributes to driving the reform agenda of the Secretariat.

The Director is ultimately accountable for the results identified under each KRA and Sub KRA assigned to him/her by the Executive.  The Director ensures Team Leaders and the teams under his/her supervision deliver results in each output area and Sub KRA as per the performance plan.

The Director’s primary role is to enable Team Leaders and their teams to deliver the expected results. The Director is the strategic leader, facilitator, collaborator, risk assessor, manager, guide, performance monitor and evaluator of the Team Leaders and teams working under his/her direction. The Director will need to support his/her Team Leaders to deliver results and will ultimately be held accountable for their performance.

This role will ensure that high quality policy advice is provided to representatives of Member States and the Forum Secretariat Executive.  She/he will lead a team of Advisers to build effective partnerships with a diverse range of regional actors – senior representatives of Forum Island Member States, Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP) agencies, other regional entities, development partners in the region, civil society representatives, and the private sector.

Some overseas travel will be required, particularly in the Pacific region, to represent the interests of the Forum Secretariat at its Members at major meetings and other events.

 About the Benefits

The appointments carries a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The starting salary will be in the range of SDR53,463 to SDR60,146 per annum. At the 1 March 2016 exchange rate this salary range was equivalent to FJD149,798 to FJD168,523. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.

To be eligible for this position, the applicant must be a national of one of the following Forum member countries*. Applicants must be willing to travel via economy class as required in the travel policy.

About the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat

The Pacific Islands Forum was founded in August 1971 and currently comprises 16 independent and self-governing states in the Pacific. Its Leaders meet annually to develop collective responses to regional issues.

The Forum’s administrative arm is the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, based in Suva, Fiji. It acts as the Secretariat for Forum-related events, implements decisions by the Leaders, facilitates the delivery of development assistance to member states, and undertakes the political and legal mandates of Forum meetings.

The Forum Secretariat is also mandated to coordinate the implementation of the Framework for Pacific Regionalism.
