Ocean Communication Officer

About the Opportunity

The role of this job is to facilitate the effective advocacy, coordination and stakeholder engagement of the OPOC with diverse stakeholders in the Pacific, and support day-to-day communications of the OPOC.  The competencies required of the successful candidate is outlined under Level C of the Forum Secretariat’s Capability Framework. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Development and implementation of an Oceans Communication Strategy;
  • Development of an OPOC website;
  • Development of an OPOC customer relationship management database;
  • Day-to-day communications activities for the OPOC; and
  • Management and administration of OPOC communications and other relevant activities.

 Applicants should have a minimum Bachelor degree in communications, marketing, public policy, international development or other relevant discipline. Candidates should at least have seven years' working experience in a relevant field. In addition applicants should poses demonstrated experience working in communications, ideally with Pacific Island Countries and Territories

About the Benefits

The appointment carries a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The salary will be in the range of SDR 28,666 to SDR32,250 per annum. At the 1 November 2017 exchange rate this salary range was equivalent to FJD83,042 to FJD93,424. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.

The Pacific Islands Forum was founded in August 1971 and currently comprises 18 independent and self-governing states in the Pacific. Its Leaders meet annually to develop collective responses to regional issues.

The Forum’s administrative arm is the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, based in Suva, Fiji. It acts as the Secretariat for Forum-related events, implements decisions by the Leaders, facilitates the delivery of development assistance to member states, and undertakes the political and legal mandates of Forum meetings.

The Forum Secretariat is also mandated to coordinate the implementation of the Framework for Pacific Regionalism.
