Life Enrichment Manager

An opportunity currently exists for a Full-time Life Enrichment/Recreation Manager at Prince of Peace Manor & Harbour in Calgary, Alberta. This position is 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Hours of work may include evenings and weekends, and may change due to operational requirements. Flexibility is a must.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

Under the direction of the General Manager plans, organizes, directs and implements programs to enhance the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual development of the residents. Contributes to establishing new methods and policies in regard to improving leisure lifestyle and promoting retirement living. Ensures Verve standards are achieved through knowledge and application of policies and procedures.

 

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The Recreation Manager will have training in a field related to health care and gerontology. He/she will have experience in social services, recreation or a related discipline.
  • He/she will be an innovative, creative individual with a keen interest in senior citizens and a proven capability of relating well to residents, their families, volunteers and the community at large.
  • University level diploma in a related discipline and a class 4 driver’s license is preferred.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with marketing to plan and organize events.
  • Responsible to oversee the creation and distribution of a monthly resident newsletter and activity calendar.
  • Promotes resident awareness and participation in leisure programs and opportunities.
  • Maintains appropriate department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs.
  • Recruits and works with family members, staff, volunteers and community groups to help fulfill each resident’s unique leisure needs.
  • Directly supervises participants in the volunteer and student placement programs.
  • Responsible for directing monthly staff planning meeting and attending management meetings
  • Maintains effective communication and good relations with residents, families and staff through appropriate lines of communication.
  • Responsible with all staff members to actively take part in the monitoring of all residents on a regular and on-going basis to ensure their safety and well-being. This protective oversight includes the responsibility to report any unusual occurrence, concern, or change in a resident’s daily life which may affect their health or welfare. The onus is upon all employees to formally document these incidents on a “VQI Incident Report.”
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
