ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

 Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Manager is responsible for performing personal assistance tasks in an efficient and cooperative manner, with due consideration for residents, ensuring adherence to the principles of choice, independence, individuality, respect, dignity and a homelike environment.

 

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of a recognized LTC Aide program or equivalent experience.  Completion of medication administration module.
  • Certified in Emergency First Aid, Level 1
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Food Safe

 

Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications in English and have a positive self-projection, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.

 Ability to work independently as well as taking direction.  Ability to work with minimum supervision and to evaluate and meet the residents’ service needs, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.

 A people-person with a heart for seniors and a positive, outgoing disposition, a team player, flexible and versatile.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Performs personal assistance to promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with the standards of the residence.
  • Assists in observing and reporting changes in the residents’ physical and emotional condition.
  • Performs duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility.
  • Assists with other duties as necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the residence, including but not limited to: Assisting in dining room ie. tray service orders, dining laundry- care & maintenance (tablecloths/napkins) carpet clean &/or additional housekeeping duties, including facilitating resident’s personal laundry.
  • Maintains effective oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families, and staff, using appropriate lines of communication.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and personnel.
  • Participates in the overall activation process developed by the facility to promote the well-being of each resident (physical, spiritual, social, and emotional).
  • Aware of in-service education opportunities within the residence and seeks out those that will improve their personal level of practice to keep informed of current trends.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.
  • Participates in the residence’s ongoing Fire Prevention, Pest Control, Continuous Quality Improvement, Occupational Health and Safety, and Infection Control programs as required.
  • Handles all matters in a confidential manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned with an exemplary standard of skill and sense of responsibility
