ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager the Life Enrichment Assistant is responsible to assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of life enrichment activities to enhance the physical, cultural, social, spiritual, intellectual and emotional well being of the residents. Contributes to establishing new activities, policies and procedures that support the activities and operation of the department.

 

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Grade 12 education. Must possess a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of recreation, health care and/or gerontology. Experience in facilitating a variety of activities in a senior environment is essential. Must be computer literate.  Smart Serve certificate required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to communicate both orally and written in English is essential.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates actively in and contributes to the Verve Quality Improvement (Continuous Quality Improvement) program.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates life enrichment activities for the residents.
  • Promotes resident awareness and participation in leisure and life enrichment activities.
  • Maintains records for the department including, assessments, evaluation of planned activities and attendance/participation records.
  • Assists in planning, organizing and developing special events.
  • Requisitions supplies and materials as needed for activities under the direction of the life enrichment manager.
  • Works with family members, volunteer and community groups to implement activities that enrich the daily lives of the residents.
  • Assists the life enrichment manager in reviewing and maintaining a department policy and procedure manual.
  • Participates in monthly audits for the life enrichment department to identify opportunities for improvement and to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • Participates in team conferences as required.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all requires annual mandatory training/education.
  • Purchases departmental supplies within life enrichment budget.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Required to work evenings and weekends.
