Your New Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Human Resources to join our team in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

In this pivotal leadership role, you will play a critical role in translating business needs into innovative and responsive Human Resources solutions while overseeing the full range of HR activities within the bakery.

Your key focus will be to help drive business success through organizational effectiveness, talent management, change management, employee engagement and proactive employment practices and policies.

More specifically, you will also be responsible for:

  • Building relationships with team members on the plant floor and supporting Operations in achieving targets
  • Reviewing, recommending, and implementing changes in Human Resource policies, procedures, and practices, effectively communicating these changes, and ensuring compliance
  • Driving effective recruitment, pre-boarding, and onboarding processes to attract, engage and retain sustainable talent into the organization, and through the employee lifecycle
  • Analyzing trends and business metrics to develop solutions and changes to programs, policies, and practices
  • Acting as a change agent to drive innovation and process improvements
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of trends and changes in human resource management, legislation, reducing legal risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and consulting with legal counsel as needed
  • Managing a proactive Employee Relations strategy that enables and maintains positive relations within a unionized environment
  • Managing and evaluating the company’s total rewards program to ensure cost-effectivenesses and competitiveness
  • Assisting senior management in the annual review, preparation, and administration of the organization's wage and salary program
  • Seeking and gathering information from multiple sources including business metrics, exit interviews, associate engagement surveys, and other conversations with employees and managers to evaluate all elements of the employment relationship to recommend action plans where appropriate to improve work relationships, build morale, boost employee engagement, and increase productivity and retention
  • Recommending, evaluating and participating in staff development for the organization
  • Developing and maintaining a human resource information system that meets HR information needs

The Ideal Candidate

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related discipline and a minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in the areas of Workforce Planning, Talent Management, Compensation, Benefits, HRIS and other HR functional areas. Previous experience in a food manufacturing or a unionized environment is a definite asset. 

You will also possess:

  • Previous experience in senior management or leadership role
  • A professional HR designation (such as CHRP, SPHR or SHRM-SCP)
  • Competency with HRIS applications, with the ability to keep on top of new and developing technologies

You will be well suited for this role if you are a self-motivated professional with strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills. You will also be able to effectively plan, set priorities, and manage multiple projects.

The ability to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and actions is essential. Above all, must be willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done and effectively manage change while contributing to the development of systems and processes
