About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Due to newly obtained funding for the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Program, Anyinginyi has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Project Officer (FASD) to join their team in Tennant Creek, NT. This position is initially being offered on a 1-2 year contract basis, with likely extension for the right person, subject to funding. 

Reporting to the Public Health Section Manager, this role will see you engaging and supporting stakeholders to develop and implement strategies to prevent Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Your actions will also aim to improve the support available for children with FAS-D and their families.

More specifically, some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Project managing and implementing the day-to-day delivery of FASD prevention activities;
  • Establishing partnerships and networks with agencies and community leaders to develop and implement FAS-D strategies that align with long-term community objectives;
  • Developing and maintaining databases, including FASD resources and a list of stakeholders involved in the delivery of programs to address FASD;
  • Developing culturally appropriate resources and awareness raising material for local communities;
  • Developing and conducting education and training programs on FASD to various target groups; and
  • Providing information and education to families, providers, researchers and policy makers on FASD.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold formal qualifications in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Project Management and/or demonstrated Project Management experience and expertise.

Key to your success will be an understanding of the primary health care system and issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the ability to communicate and support the delivery of culturally responsive programs and services.

Sound knowledge of a public health approach to the delivery of health promotion activities, including the use of principles of primary health care, community development and CQI will be essential. Anyinginyi is also seeking someone with an understanding of the national policy frameworks and tools for health promotion and disease prevention relevant to FASD delivery to remote Indigenous communities in the NT.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to monitor project progress and manage competing priorities in an effective manner.

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required, is also essential for this role.
