About the Opportunity

United Group Australia now have a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Group Accountant with strong commercial business acumen to join their team in South Yarra, Melbourne. 

Reporting directly to a Group Director, you will assist the various business units by drawing on your commercial acumen to provide financial & managerial guidance, whilst keeping your finger on the financial pulse of the Group's day to day financial operations. 

This is a unique opportunity in the sense that you'll also use your initiative, experience and knowledge to assist in the Group's operational efficiency and growth.

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Liaising with, and monitoring the finance teams to keep them accountable for the month end closing activities;
  • Compiling and consolidating detailed monthly management reports & the Group’s annual statutory accounts;
  • Providing day to day guidance and management of local and interstate finance team members;
  • Overseeing, reporting and monitoring the group’s financial performance;
  • Controlling the Group's cash flow and treasury function (including the authorisation of bank instructions, funds transfer and liaison with bankers);
  • Leading and maintaining improvement of internal controls and process re-engineering;
  • Liaising with external parties, corporate secretarial agents and accountants/auditors;
  • Managing the Group's insurance program (including debtors insurance);
  • Managing the Group's asset finance and lending requirements; and
  • Assisting in various ad hoc finance projects and initiatives.

About You

The successful candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Accounting with post graduate CA or CPA qualifications, and relevant post graduate work experience (preferably within public practice / large corporate). Proficiency in MYOB, advanced knowledge of Excel, experience with year-end statutory preparation or company audits, and knowledge of some financial modelling is required.

Due to the nature of the role, it is essential you be an experienced hands-on leader with the ability to monitor geographically diverse finance teams. The ability to communicate at all levels, with both financial and non-financial management will the key to your success. Additionally, you will possess the ability to educate team members and keep them accountable.

Your strong emphasis on process and procedure and keen eye for detail will ensure your success. A diligent working style with a high degree of accuracy, strong organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities to deadlines will also aid you.

Due to this position having operational responsibility for both Melbourne and Adelaide sites, planned regular travel to Adelaide is an expected requirement. This is estimated at 2-3 days per month, if required.

Although not essential, experience within the Construction Industry / Manufacturing is desirable.
