About the Organisation

Central Desert Regional Council is located in Alice Springs, Northern Territory and covers an area of approximately 283,000 square kms.  The Council itself is relatively young as it was formed in 2008 through the amalgamation of a number of small community councils.  

Central Desert Regional Council services the communities of Anmatjere, Atitjere, Engawala, Lajamanu, Laramba, Nyirripi, Yuelamu, Yuendumu, Willowra; as well as a large area of currently unincorporated land.

About the Opportunity

Central Desert Regional Council now has a rewarding opportunity for a Regional Manager - Community Development Program to join their team based at Alice Springs, NT. This is a full-time, fixed term contract until June 2019, with extension subject to funding, up to a further 5 years.

Operating under the direction of the Director of Community Services, this position will have operational responsibility for the outcomes, performance management and stakeholder engagement of the Community Development Program. This is a pivotal role within the organisation providing leadership and direction to all staff within the program, inline with the organisation's objectives and corporate values. 

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing effective leadership and direction to the CDP team by fostering productive, performance focused teamwork and a positive, resilient and flexible workplace culture;
  • Liaising with community leaders and employers within the Central Desert region to understand the economic, social and cultural drivers that will influence CDP planning and service delivery;
  • Developing partnerships with peak bodies, industry and employer representatives and training and education providers to ensure the needs of employers and the employment aspirations of people living in remote communities within the Region are at the forefront of the Community Development Program’s planning;
  • Liaising with the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to ensure the implementation of CDP is compliant with contractual agreements; and
  • Providing regular and clear progress reporting that is outcome based.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Management, Community Development or similar discipline and have a demonstrated background in Employment Services, ideally gained in a remote or regional setting.

Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills will be critical to your success in this role as you liaise with government, non-government and industry stakeholders to promote employment opportunities within the region. You will also need to have an awareness of issues affecting Aboriginal people in remote locations and be comfortable operating in a cross-cultural environment. 

Council is looking for an outcome focused individual who is operationally savvy and can recognise the most appropriate strategies to get the job done and implement them accordingly. You will be a proven leader who can drive and take ownership of the CDP strategy and business model, and you will have a well-developed business acumen with the ability to interpret financial information, manage external funding and develop and execute business cases. 

Please note: The successful candidate will be required, on occasion, to drive a 4WD and a as such an open Driver's License is a requirement of this position. You will also need to undertake an NT Police Criminal History Check (organised by Council), prior to commencement.
