Lung Foundation Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation based in Brisbane. Their vision is to ensure that lung health is a priority for all in Australia and to promote lung health by:

  • Educating the community in lung health and early detection of lung disease;
  • Reducing the burden of lung disease in the community through patient and carer support;
  • Influencing public policy, through advocacy across all levels of government; and
  • Raising funds for medical and scientific research.

The Lung Foundation Australia nationally employs about 25 professional/administrative staff, supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

About the Opportunity

Lung Foundation Australia now has an opportunity for a Grants Manager to join their dedicated team in the recently established Sydney office, commencing in March 2019. This position is being offered on a part-time (0.6 FTE) basis - you will ideally work 3 days per week, with days and hours to be negotiated prior to commencement.

Grant funding is an emerging fundraising and development activity that is part of the Lung Foundation’s development strategy, as the organisation shifts its focus to diversity of revenue and sustainability into the future. This position will see you responsible for all aspects of grants management across the organisation.

Lung Foundation Australia aims to grow their support for research awards and other research initiatives from a current $2.5Million to $5Million per annum. This position will partner with Executives to help drive this growth.

Some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Working closely with the CEO and General Managers to understand and reflect the needs of the organisation in all grant applications;
  • Acting as the organisation's key contact and relationship manager with funders;
  • Developing strategies to estimate and achieve annual grants income targets;
  • Researching potential philanthropic, government and corporate grant opportunities;
  • Developing and writing grant applications to potential and current providers, in collaboration with General Managers and Managers; and
  • Taking responsibility for contract management of successful grants.

Please Note: Regular travel to Brisbane will be required.

About You 

Lung Foundation Australia is looking for someone with prior experience in successfully managing a diverse grants portfolio. A highly developed understanding of philanthropic, private ancillary funds, corporate foundations, trusts and estates will be essential, in addition to knowledge of SAM registration for US Federal Grants, the NGO space and the private foundation market in Australia.

This position will see you developing strategic long-term meaningful partnerships with a diverse range of internal and external funding partners. As such, you must display excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to present to diverse groups of people. The ability to communicate in various writing styles, including experience in the preparation of funding submissions, is also crucial.

In addition, a demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain systems to manage dynamic work priorities, reporting and analysis of trends and results will be critical for your success in this role, as will exceptional analytical, policy development and research skills.

Prior experience in a health/NFP environment is not required, however you must possess high level organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities to strict deadlines; you'll have a results driven and proactive approach to your work, with a strong focus on forward planning (including the development of a strategic grants calendar). Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is necessary.
