About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an Applications Analyst to join their team on a full-time basis. This position will be based at either our Medicine Hat, AB site or the Geismar, LA, USA site, based on the location of the successful candidate. 

In this role, you will use your outstanding customer service skills, applications knowledge and technical skills to ensure that Methanex business applications and processes meet all business and user requirements and operate in a secure, reliable and efficient manner.

As a member of the Global IT Shared Services team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day support, administration, proactive monitoring and maintenance for the assigned applications, reports, extensions and integrations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing outstanding customer service to deliver second and third level application support, technical advice and training
  • Assisting the Service Desk and identified SMEs to provide effective first level support for petrochemical/process/manufacturing plant application systems
  • Supporting Business application services including Enterprise Asset Management systems, Industrial Plant Monitoring systems, Industrial Engineering Document Management systems, Plant Reliability Inspection systems, Laboratory Information systems, enterprise SQL reports development, application extensions and integrations
  • Application support includes standard ITIL services such as troubleshooting application functionality issues, incident investigation and resolution, implementing minor system improvements and reports development
  • Proactively managing application support involving user customers, Managed Application Service providers and software manufacturers
  • Application administration including software installation, configuration, patching & upgrades, performance monitoring/tuning, data loading, environment reliability management, backup/recovery and disaster recovery testing
  • Actively supporting the transition of new application services from development to production, including testing, user training, go-live ITIL based change management, as well as the decommissioning of legacy application services
  • Consistently applying Methanex change management processes to ensure all software releases, application patches and software configurations comply with ITIL based standards and are thoroughly tested before promotion to production
  • Ensuring applications services are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and Methanex information security and end-user policy and standards
  • Preparing monthly status reports for user groups and IT management
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement of application services reliability, IT processes and procedures
  • Maintaining user documentation and system operation guides, IT knowledge base and software asset databases.
  • Providing input to IT policies, procedures and standards
  • Developing strong business partnerships with SMEs, Application Managed Service providers and Business Systems Analysts for supported business applications.

In order to qualify for this role, you will have an Undergraduate degree in Information Technology or related field combined with a minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience working with and supporting Enterprise Asset Management applications like IBM Maximo. You will also possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience supporting or administering applications in an enterprise or manufacturing/petrochemical environment. ITIL Experience and/or Certification will be considered an asset.

You will also possess:

  • Previous experience working with Enterprise Database Systems and SQL Report development
  • Familiarity with ITIL service management tools such as ManageEngine Service Desk Plus
  • Working knowledge of modern application architectures, business intelligence and reporting tools like IBM Cognos or Microsoft PowerBI, relational databases and programming languages such as SQL
  • Experience working with Global teams in a multi-disciplined/ multi-functional team environment
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and responsibilities in a high-pressure environment
