About the Opportunity

Medical Equipment Management (MEM) are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable and hands-on Biomedical Engineering Technician or Engineer to join their busy service team based in Darwin on a full-time basis.

You'll be responsible for carrying out repairs, inspections, and services to medical equipment in a timely and economical fashion, as well as acting as a consultant and educator to clinical staff.

Your day-to-day duties may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Efficiently fault-finding on a wide range of medical and laboratory equipment, including medical gases, X-Ray, laboratory and IT networked equipment
  • Researching and compiling quotes for repairs and servicing;
  • Carrying out services, installations, and training on medical and laboratory equipment as per MEM policies and procedures within time and budget constraints;
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, medical staff and key stakeholders; and
  • Mentoring and training other members of the MEM team as required.

This diverse and varied role will see you working in hospital workshops one minute and travelling across the Top End in a customised 4WD or light aircraft to deliver services to Health Centres in remote communities the next. Some of MEM's staff even helicopter out to work on medical facilities in offshore oil rigs! Please note: Extended travel is only required on average, one week in every six.

About You

To be considered for this role you must hold tertiary qualifications in Electronics and/or Biomedical Engineering, paired with demonstrated experience working in a technical role repairing and fault finding medical equipment. 

You'll be a friendly, outgoing and fluent communicator with the ability to expertly analyse, negotiate and provide solutions for a wide range of stakeholders, from doctors and nurses to remote health workers. You'll have a working knowledge of scheduled preventative maintenance methods and documentation, medical device asset registers, as well as a demonstrated understanding of AS/NZS 3551 and other relevant standards.

The ideal candidate will combine the positive attitude, flexibility and tenacity needed to handle long drives through the outback with the cross-cultural skills and sensitivity to understand and relate to the indigenous population when you arrive in their remote communities.

While not mandatory, previous experience supplying BME support to remote areas will be highly regarded. Finally, MEM is looking for a dedicated professional with a long-term outlook and a sense of adventure that will enjoy living in and exploring the Top End!

Please note: Before commencing, you must hold (or obtain) a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence, an NT Police Criminal History Check, a Working With Children Clearance (OCHRE card) and a 'Restricted B Class' Electrical licence (or necessary qualifications to obtain one).
