The Role of School Principal

Yiyili Aboriginal Independent Community School (Yiyili) now has a rewarding opportunity for a full-time School Principal to join their school in the Mueller Ranges, WA, ideally commencing in Term 2.

Reporting to the School Board, you will primarily be responsible for leading and managing the long term operations and day-to-day affairs of the school, including pupils and employees. 

As Yiyili is an independent school built by the community, this is an extremely broad, varied and fast-paced position that will see you engaging with the seven communities that have children at the school and external stakeholders to effectively deliver quality educational outcomes.

In an energetic and dynamic school with an excellent reputation, you'll have responsibility for the educational curriculum, maintenance of school facilities and employee housing, managing service providers and contractors, liaising with the in-school Art Gallery, visitors and organising activities.

Are you the right fit?

To be considered for this position you must be a qualified Teacher with WA Teacher Registration (or eligibility to obtain) and significant demonstrated experience in management level positions.

You will have the adaptability, tenacity and initiative to solve a wide range of problems independently, including learning new skills as needed. The ideal candidate will combine strong cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills with a consultative and collaborative leadership and management approach in order to successfully work with the community to achieve the School Board's goals.

While not mandatory, applicants with proven backgrounds working in remote environments and/or within a cross-cultural context and proven respect for cultural differences will be highly regarded. Most importantly, Yiyili is looking for a passionate professional committed to delivering excellence in Aboriginal education.

Please note: Before commencing you must possess a current Working With Children (OCHRE) card, a current National Police Clearance, and a current, unrestricted Australian Manual Driver's Licence.

About Yiyili Aboriginal Independent Community School

Yiyili Aboriginal Independent Community School is an independent school catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. It is governed by a school board consisting of members from the local communities and has five multi-age classrooms.

The school has a current enrolment of 62 students and is fortunate to have excellent facilities including a covered basketball court, full commercial-grade kitchen, excellent IT resources, dedicated Gooniyandi language room and a library as well as a mechanical workshop. All classrooms are well equipped to service the learning needs of students and have interactive whiteboards as well as class sets of iPads.
