About Macfarlane Generators

After more than 70 years in the business, Macfarlane Generators is the big name in the generator game.

Established in 1949, Macfarlane Generators today specialises in the supply, installation and servicing of new used and refurbished generator sets for industrial, commercial, domestic and recreational applications.

The company currently has 4 electrical and mechanical workshops - two located in Clayton South (VIC), one in Seven Hills (NSW) and one in Brendale (QLD).

The Melbourne based national operation offers a comprehensive range of power generation, power proving and power testing equipment with the latest technology for sale or hire, long or short term.

About the Opportunity

Macfarlane Generators has recently made the decision to combine the electrical and mechanical workshops in Clayton South into one, larger workshop. As a result, they now have an opportunity for a senior, Branch Workshop Manager to oversee both electrical and mechanical workshop operations, on a full-time basis.

Overseeing a team of approximately 8 staff and supported by an Assistant Manager (who has a mechanical background), this position will see you setting the standard and agendas for the workshop, overseeing both electrical and mechanical repairs and equipment servicing works and ensuring staff engagement and operational efficiencies. This will include anything from small carry portables to Generator Sets in 40' container power boxes.

More specifically, your duties will include:

  • Maintaining regular communication with, and between the management team with reference to sharing job information, product bulletins and service information;
  • Ensuring workshop staff are available, properly planned and instructed daily on jobs that are to be attended to, in order to minimise wasted time;
  • Ensuring all work, including new set pre-deliveries performed by the company are carried out at best practice and best possible standards and that relevant paperwork is completed correctly;
  • Ensuring workshop tools, test equipment, load banks, battery chargers and other plant items are kept ready for use, cleaned and serviced as required; and
  • Providing assistance to the Branch Manager when and where required in any issue concerning the workshops.

Please note: Macfarlane Generators enforces a no smoking, no alcohol and no drugs work environment.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold significant experience as an electrical tradesperson with at least some of this gained in a supervisory or management capacity in a workshop environment. Any power generator experience will be highly regarded.

You will have good computer and job costing skills, live within a reasonable distance from the Branch and be confident in your ability to communicate effectively with branch employees and the engineering and sales departments.

This position requires a mature, co-operative person with common sense, a flexible approach, and a desire to work continually to improve workshop performance. Power generator and power proving equipment can present difficult and complex problems to solve, and as such, this position would be well-suited to someone who loves a challenge and can demonstrate patience and calm under pressure.

What you'll receive in return

Macfarlane Generators invests heavily in the branch workshops, the staff and the equipment, which is backed up by the branch sales departments and supported by the engineering department. As such, you will be offered fantastic training and ongoing support from a team of long-term and experienced staff.

A competitive remuneration package is negotiable depending on the experience you are bringing to the role, but is circa $95,000 plus super, uniforms, a mobile phone, computer, credit card and vehicle for commercial use.
