About the Organisation
New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is a large-scale integrated, and leading industrial producer of sustainable palm oil in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
The NBPOL Group has over 76,000 hectares of planted oil palm plantations, a further 10,000 hectares under preparation for oil palm, over 5,500 hectares of sugar cane and a further 9,000 hectares of grazing pasture, twelve oil mills, two refineries (one in PNG, and one in Liverpool, UK), as well as a seed production and plant breeding facility.
Fully RSPO accredited, NBPOL is fully vertically integrated, producing its own seed (which it also sells globally) and planting, cultivating and harvesting its own land and processing and refining palm oil, in both PNG and the UK. It also contracts directly with its end-customers in the EU and arranges the shipping of its products.
About the Opportunity
NBPOL now has a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Oil Palm Operations to join their diverse and expanding organisation based in Papua New Guinea. This is a full-time, 5 year contract position with potential to extend after this time.
Reporting to the General Manager, your main responsibility will be to ensure the efficient and economical operation of the Palm Oil Enterprise across three key areas - Mill Operations, Transport and Workshop Operations and Estate Operations (plantation).
As the second most senior person at the site, you will provide leadership support to the General Manager for all staff at the plantation, as well as having direct managerial responsibility for senior managers in each operational area.
More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but not be limited to):
- Overseeing all Palm Oil operations, insuring that potential is realised in the most cost effective manner;
- Conducting regular workplace inspections, adhering to standard operating practices;
- Ensuring compliance with principles and criteria of RSPO;
- Providing technical support to managers in order to achieve goals;
- Monitoring and managing costs of production;
- Coordinating the management of crop, operational and capital budgets; and
- Assisting in the training and mentoring of executive staff.
About You
To be considered for this position you will have tertiary qualifications in Agricultural Science or similar, coupled with a proven track record of managing, building and developing a high performing plantation team. You will have demonstrated experience and proficiency in palm oil production, transport of FFB and an understanding of palm oil milling operations. Any experience gained specifically in overseeing workshop and/or transport operations, will be very highly regarded.
Importantly, you will be an engaging leader with high emotional intelligence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence behaviour across all levels of the organisation. You will be commercial savvy, with a strong financial acumen and the ability to add real value in the strategic growth and development of the business.
