About the Opportunity

Moree Plains Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to join their team in Moree, Northern NSW on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Integrated Planning and Reporting Manager, and working closely with one other Communications Officer, the key focus of this position is to deliver a range of communications functions in the areas of media, events and internal and external communications that meets the needs of users and stakeholders, and that furthers the communications aims and objectives of Moree Plains Shire Council.

More specifically, you will have two key focuses:

  • Researching, drafting, proof reading, coordinating, obtaining approval and distributing media releases, newsletters, social media responses, content for Council’s website and advertising and promotional materials; and
  • Administering Council’s social media presence to help foster a positive image of the organisation and the Shire.

About You 

To be considered for this position you will ideally hold tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, journalism or similar, however this is not mandatory providing you have demonstrated experience creating written content across a number of digital and print channels. 

Previous experience managing and writing content for social media platforms will be highly regarded, however this is less important than a strong background in developing content for media releases, newsletter, information sheets and other relevant sources for distribution to the public.

It goes without saying that you will have an excellent command of spoken and written English, with strong writing, editing and proofreading skills and exceptional attention to detail in relation to spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency. 

You will be a confident communicator with the ability to liaise effectively with media and internal stakeholders and exercise judgement in prioritising issues and tasks. Importantly, you will understand the need to work within Council's style guides and strategies for how content is delivered to the market and appreciate that you are writing on behalf of Council, not expressing personal views. 

Please Note: You must hold or being willing to obtain a WHS General Construction Induction Card (white card), and be willing to undertake a criminal records check prior to commencement.
