About Youth+ & FAME
Edmund Rice Education Australia Youth+ (EREA Youth+) is a network of flexible learning centres that offer young people an opportunity to reconnect with education in a setting that is non-judgemental, inclusive and flexible. With a focus on literacy and numeracy, all programming and learning activities are developed based on young people’s individual learning plans which are customised based on learning levels and what they require to re-engage.
FAME Flexible Learning Centre (FAME) is a Catholic school steeped in the Edmund Rice tradition. FAME first began as a mobile service in the southern suburbs of Adelaide for young people from complex backgrounds who had disengaged from mainstream schooling. FAME creates a setting where young people can access a safe environment, experience a high level of wellbeing and receive educational support to help them achieve outcomes in their Personal Learning Plans (PLP). FAME aims to re-engage young people who have either disengaged with their schooling or who are looking to access a different model to mainstream schooling with the chance to access a variety of activities including music, physical fitness, art, catering/hospitality and other engaging options.
FAME now operates across two Onkaparinga council youth centres, the Wardli Youth Centre, Christie Downs and Base 10 Youth Centre, Reynella. FAME works within the four Youth+ principles (Respect, Participation, Honesty, and Safe and Legal), and invites staff and young people onto a “common ground” where everyone has a voice in making decisions and establishing working agreements to foster a positive environment where young people can achieve positive educational and wellbeing outcomes.
About the Opportunity
EREA Youth+ now has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a passionate and patient Youth Worker to join the team at FAME Flexible Learning Centre on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Head of Campus and the Network Principal, you will primarily be responsible for supporting the engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion responses of the campus as well as providing focused support to the staff and young people involved in the educational programs.
This is a pivotal classroom position supporting the teacher to engage and work with young people to approach mental health issues, family issues, welfare in the home and seeking out medical health/support.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Collaborating with the team to support a socially inclusive program that responds to the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and cultural needs of young people;
- Providing a support service and a referral point for further support services to staff and young people dealing with issues of child protection;
- Supporting and developing cultural link, community and family connections that support the engagement and connection of young people to learning and the wider community as part of a team;
- Liaising and developing service referral and provision with government and non-government agencies and appropriate levels to support health, mental health and wellbeing needs of young people; and
- Participating in the daily routines and activities of the FLC, including morning meetings, lunch, electives, outings and camps.

About You
To be considered for this position you must hold relevant qualifications in this field alongside demonstrated competency in youth work practice.
You will have a demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing disaffected young people, with the exceptional interpersonal skills necessary to engage with young people to find your point of common ground and build trusting relationships.
As you will be working as part of a multi-faceted support network, your ability to support and liaise with the team will be crucial to your success in ensuring that the young people in your care understand they have a multitude of support options.
The ideal candidate is an adaptable, tenacious professional with the flexibility, patience and calm demeanour to provide realistic individual support to the young people at FAME.
