About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and community-minded Senior Case Worker to join their Intensive Family Support Service (IFSS) team in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the IFSS Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring that the program is culturally responsive, developing case plans, delivering practical support, and implementing family and group programs.

The IFSS program supports families referred from NT Government Territory Families to improve the care of children identified as being at high risk or experiencing neglect.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Working to develop sustainable and respectful networks in Aboriginal communities within the Barkley Region, particularly with families participating in the IFSS program;
  • Helping families with issues such as housing, supervision, food, hygiene, positive parenting, school attendance and medical care;
  • Participating in in case management and other meetings with Department for Children and Families and relevant agencies;
  • Coordinate and facilitate group education and support sessions for IFSS clients relevant to their parenting needs; and
  • Identifying trends or gaps and effectively planning and developing activities to strengthen the level of access to programs and service delivery for individuals and families across the Barkly Region.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have demonstrated experience and tertiary qualifications in Child, Family and Youth Interventions, Community Services, Counselling, or similar, with a practical understanding of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting requirements.

You will have a proven ability to provide highly effective assessment and case management practices, with a background in using your high-level interpersonal and intercultural communication skills to develop and maintain effective cross-cultural networks and relationships.

It is essential that you can work independently to achieve success, with the accountability and persistence needed to effectively manage projects and resources in order to meet agreed budgets, timelines and objectives. You will be confident using Microsoft Office applications and client information management systems to support data collecting, analysis and reports.

You will need a clear understanding of the Primary Health Care system and key issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will be capable of supporting the delivery of community health or welfare services in remote Aboriginal communities that support culturally responsive programs and services to incorporate the importance of traditional cultures, values and protocols, including Aboriginal child-rearing practices.

 Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
