The Sunrise approach involves community people taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation's Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees.

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation works in partnership with Northern Territory PHN (NT PHN), who provide support services to health professionals and organisation across the Northern Territory. NT PHN offers support and assistance to eligible nurses and allied health professionals who are relocating to the NT for the purposes of employment.

About the Opportunity

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-Visiting (MECSH) Program Nurse to join their dedicated team. The successful candidate will be delivering the program to several communities including Barunga, Manyallaluk (Eva Valley) and Bulman. This is a contract based position ending in July, 2022.

Reporting to the MECSH Manager, your main responsibility is to provide Primary Health Care to families and identify problems early in the child's development, offer advice and pursue opportunities for health promotion and prevention.

Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Supporting mothers and families with their psychological and environmental issues;
  • Enabling and supporting the mother and family to enhance their coping and problem solving skills;
  • Promoting and modelling positive parent-infant interaction;
  • Delivering a standardised, structured, child development parent education program; and
  • Carrying a case load of up to thirty clients.

Please note: This position will require regular travel in a light aircraft or four-wheel drive to remote communities.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will be registered with AHPRA as a General Nurse and have a minimum of five years demonstrated experience in remote and child health.

A demonstrated understanding of issues pertaining to Aboriginal primary health care and experience working with vulnerable families is a must.

Sunrise Health is seeking an individual who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive this important program. You will be comfortable living in a remote environment and working under Aboriginal management and control. The ability to build capacity of both staff and the community will be critical to your success in this role.

An ability to work autonomously and demonstrate efficient time management skills are important for this role.

The successful candidate must be willing to undergo a Working With Children Check or hold a current Ochre Card and have an unrestricted NT drivers licence.
