About the Organisation
Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to using its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it.
Established in 1987, CRDVS has grown from a small team of volunteers to become one of the first four Regional Domestic Violence Services to receive funding from the Queensland government in 1992. Lead by a Board and with 25 staff, the organisation provides a free, confidential and highly professional service for family members who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, domestic and family violence.
The service is staffed by a team of qualified professionals with experience in adult and child counselling, court support and training. Their vision is clear, and at the heart of everything they do:

About the Opportunity
Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) currently has a rewarding opportunity for a Chief Executive Officer to join their team.
Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for managing and supervising the delivery of an effective, innovative and quality domestic violence service to clients and stakeholders in the Far Northern Region, ensuring the objectives of the service are achieved.
More specifically, your duties will include:
- Managing the day to day services. including service accountability and adherence to funding and legislative guidelines;
- Overseeing financial management of the organisation;
- Ensuring effective human resource management;
- Facilitating the development and implementation of CRDVS policy and strategic planning;
- Resourcing and participating on the CRDVS board;
- Analysing trends and policy including bringing a gendered and cultural lens to violence against women and children; and
- Maintaining effective professional relationships and liaison with key stakeholders.

About You
The ideal candidate will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in human services, social sciences or related fields and will have extensive experience working in the human services sector, with those from a specialist domestic and family violence, sexual assault or women’s health background being highly regarded.
You will also have an in-depth knowledge, analysis and understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women, children and adolescents, including aspects relating specifically to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse women.Your demonstrated understanding of the causes, effects, social context and responses to domestic violence, including appreciation of cultural differences and needs of a diverse group are important for this role; as is the understanding of the impact that trauma has on survivors of domestic and family violence and within the community.
Due to the nature of this role, you will need to be resilient with good coping mechanisms, and have a genuine passion for addressing and reducing domestic violence in the community. Also required are computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
As the head of the organisation, it is expected that you will be a confident and experienced public speaker who will represent the CRDVS at policy level, in the community and at social functions.
