About Sunrise

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.

The Sunrise approach involves Aboriginal communities taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation's Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees.

Servicing nine communities spread over 45,000 square kilometres, the Sunrise footprint covers Aboriginal communities that are some of the most disadvantaged in the Territory with some of the most complex health issues. Yet despite this, the ethos and practices of Sunrise Health have it be a leader, both nationally and in the Territory, for both national and Territory performance indicators.

Acute health care does not make people well - it is only when health issues and the social determinants of health are addressed, that families and communities become well – a challenge that Sunrise Health is committed to address with each of its communities and with the expectation that each of its employees will adopt and uphold this culture.

About the Opportunity

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation now has several integral opportunities for full-time Health Centre Managers to join their teams across remote NT. The three roles are in the following locations:

  • Bulman
  • Ngukurr
  • Minyerri

Reporting to the Director of Primary Health Care and working closely with a cohesive and multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operations of the Health Centre including planning, portfolio management, pharmacy, and consumables as well as assets management.

You will also coordinate and support the remote health team’s goals to manage illness, promote well-being, maintain health systems, provide education and training and encourage community health action.

Core duties:

  • Lead the roll-out of "The Sunrise Way" policy platform within the SHS region;
  • Work with the CHC's, community stakeholders and indigenous staff to identify health priorities and solutions through the operationalising of the organisation's Strategic and Business plan;
  • Build the capacity of Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) and non-Indigenous staff to provide the highest possible standard of culturally appropriate health care; and
  • Direct and oversee the local delivery of organisations health programs.

What will you need to succeed?

To be successful in this position you will be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a General Nurse or as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.

Proven broad comprehensive primary health care experience with advanced clinical skills and competencies needed to work effectively in remote areas will be essential for success in this role.

Able to demonstrate a commitment to the objectives and ethos of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations such as Sunrise and the principles of Aboriginal community control health services, you will have a clear respect for Aboriginal culture. You will also have an ability to learn from and collaborate with Aboriginal community members, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and other indigenous community outreach team members.

An understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, drivers of health inequality, principles of primary health care and relevant legislation governing work practice in the Northern Territory is also desirable, and will help you succeed in this role.

As an influential and resilient negotiator, your well-developed interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively supervise and mentor a diverse and dispersed group of staff, while being conscious of building productive and sustainable relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to drive positive health outcomes.

Most importantly, you will be someone who is always willing to contribute in a meaningful way and believes in what we do here at Sunrise Health.
