Job No: 123320
Location: Brookton WA

  • Are you a genuine people-person with a background in farming or agriculture, looking for something new?
  • Join an industry leader in hay and straw export, and help support local Aussie farmers to grow high quality crops!
  • Attractive remuneration package plus fully maintained vehicle and more!

About the Organisation

Balco Australia is one of the country’s leading hay processors and exporters, providing hay and straw products to international markets. Founded in 1990 by two local South Australian farmers, they are passionate about driving the progress of the Australian hay industry through product innovation and continual process improvement, and were the first major Australian processor to achieve HACCP accreditation.

Supporting the local community through employment and the provision of expert support and training, they have developed long-term relationships with the most experienced and professional growers in the prime growing regions of South Australia and Western Australia. Together, Balco and its growers are setting the benchmark in quality standards across the industry. With an exemplary work health and safety record, they put the wellbeing of employees before all else.

About the Opportunity

Balco Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for a flexible Field Account Manager to join their team on a full-time basis. Based out of Balco's Brookton office, a short drive from Perth, you will be travelling to supplier locations throughout the Wheatbelt region.

Reporting to the Field and Procurement Manager, you will be the interface between Balco and crop growers, responsible for building strong relationships to secure the supply of quality hay and straw, supporting them to optimise crop quality, volume, and margins whilst promoting Balco as the preferred customer for their product.

Your main responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Liaising and negotiating with growers to gain commitment to grow hay and supply to Balco;
  • Contributing to the implementation and monitoring of HACCP compliance;
  • Working closely with growers to identify areas in which Balco can add value;
  • Collecting and providing accurate information about grower needs, trends, issues and concerns into the team’s planning and response processes;
  • Regularly inspecting farms throughout the product life cycle, conducting product tests in paddocks and sheds; and
  • Coordinating deliveries with growers to maximise efficiency of on time delivery to decrease double handling whenever possible.

About You

To be considered for this role you will have a demonstrated background within the agricultural sector, ideally related to export oaten hay. A relevant qualification would be beneficial but is not essential, with hands-on farming experience considered just as valuable. It is essential that you have a sound understanding of the crop growing process and the characteristics of quality hay and straw, to enable you to complete paddock inspections, understand the technical outcomes, and discuss this with the grower.

Your well-developed communication skills will be your greatest asset in successfully relating with growers, allowing you to build effective relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. You will be willing and able to listen to advice and learn from others, whilst having the confidence to offer suggestions or advice as needed to help meet quality standards and regulatory compliance.

A highly autonomous role, you will need the ability to work independently and manage your own workflow. Prior experience working remotely or without direct supervision will be highly regarded, but is not essential provided you are a driven individual with a genuine desire to succeed and contribute to the Balco team.

With strong negotiation and problem solving skills, you'll be capable of finding mutually beneficial solutions that maximise returns for both Balco and suppliers. Previous exposure to an agriculture export environment would be an advantage.

Please note: You will need to be available for regular travel to farm sites, on the road for up to a week at a time, and as such will need a current, unrestricted driver's license.

About the Benefits

This is a unique and varied opportunity to bring your experience to a business that values their team and understands the value of hard work. Working autonomously, you'll get to spend your work days building relationships and collaborating with local Australian farmers to achieve quality product and great outcomes for both Balco and their growers.

In return, you'll enjoy a highly attractive remuneration package, negotiable based on your skills and experience, PLUS phone, tablet or laptop and fully maintained work/private use vehicle.

Accommodation assistance is negotiable for candidates outside the area, to help you get settled in town.

Now one of Australia's leading processors and exporters, Balco has retained the genuine 'small company' feel and culture that has made them so successful, and is still invested in supporting their local community. A dynamic, growing business that puts the wellbeing of its employees first, you'll be joining a supportive team environment and have access to ongoing training courses, information days and other development opportunities, as well as the potential for career advancement and skill development. Balco Australia also strongly believes in supporting the work/life balance of its staff.
